Whether you are setting up the nursery or just picking up all the gear for sleeping, eating, and diapering, it’s easy to get lost in the details of all of these baby necessities. You might be wondering where to start and what exactly do you need for a baby?

Baby Checklist
The sheer amount of things a newborn needs can be daunting and takes many soon-to-be Moms and Dads by surprise. So what are the absolute must-have baby items you just can’t afford to forget, the baby essentials you definitely can’t live without? Here is my list of the tried and true, basic baby necessities you should load up on before your the arrival of your precious little one.
Baby Clothes
In all honesty, baby clothes are just about the cutest things you can buy these days, but you’ll want to be careful and ensure the adorable little outfits you choose are also practical pieces that will keep your little one warm and comfortable! When it comes to dressing your newborn for sleep or travel, these are the baby must-haves:
- 6-10 Onesies – Make sure to look for wide leg and head openings.
- 4-8 Undershirts – You can never really have too many of these.
- 6-10 One-piece Pajamas – I prefer pajamas with zippers as my large fingers don’t do well with the snaps.
- 1-3 Sweaters or Jackets – Look for something comfortable with buttons in the front.
- 1-3 Rompers – For dressing up when you want a “fancy” baby!
- 3-5 Pairs of Socks – For use under the swaddle if you are not using full legged/booted pajamas.
- 1-3 hats – Broad-brimmed for summer wear or soft cap for the winter.

- Nursing Pads – It will sometimes feel like you are taking a bath in breastmilk…true story!
- Nipple Cream – Your baby’s latch is super important but the nipple cream can help as you both figure things out.
